Training Champions. Building Horsemen.
Specializing in Barrel Racing, Pole Bending
and All-Around Performance Horses
I’ve spent years traveling across the United States competing in barrel races and rodeo events, gaining hands-on experience in high-level competition and performance horsemanship.
As a dedicated member of the National Barrel Horse Association (NBHA), West Coast Barrel Racing Association, AQHA, APHA, and several other professional organizations, I stay actively involved in the western performance horse world—both in and out of the arena.
This national experience allows me to bring real-world knowledge, industry insight, and a passion for competition into every lesson I teach—whether you're learning the basics or preparing for your next big run.

At David Lawson Performance Horses, I focus on developing strong, effective relationships between horse and rider. Using proven horsemanship techniques, I help both reach new levels of confidence and competitive success.
With a strong background in teaching and hands-on experience training with some of the top names in the barrel racing and horse world, I bring real-world knowledge to every lesson. As a competitor myself, I’ve earned over $100,000 in barrel racing, pole bending, and team roping—and that experience allows me to teach more than just technique. I help my students build mental toughness and focus, essential for those ready to take their riding to the next level.
My students have found success both in and out of the arena—and I’d love to help you do the same.

While my primary focus is on speed events, I proudly offer a full range of horsemanship lessons for riders of all ages and experience levels—from first-time beginners to seasoned competitors. Whether you’re looking to master the basics, sharpen your skills for the show ring, or dive into ranch riding, there’s a personalized lesson designed just for you.
Our program includes showmanship, horse show preparation, ranch riding, and more—all designed to help you build confidence, improve technique, and develop a strong, lasting partnership with your horse.
I also work closely with high school rodeo students, helping them prepare for competition season, improve event performance, and gain real-world experience both at home and on the road. As part of our program, I regularly travel to shows, offering hands-on coaching and support at events to help riders perform at their best when it counts most.
Let’s ride toward your goals—one lesson at a time.

After many years of training horses at a public boarding facility, I recently moved my training operation to a wonderful private facility in Graton, California and I couldn’t be happier. It’s just me, my horses and clients, surrounded by a peaceful, relaxing environment. It has definitely been a labor of love as we made this facility our own. Now it’s time to get back to training horses, lessons and focusing on upcoming races. I have room for a couple of outside training horses. Services include basic training, seasoning and hauling to shows, with special emphasis on futurity horses. Let me help them start their career right!
Please call me to discuss your needs and expectations.
We have an amazing all weather arena, large stalls with runs and pasture with shelter. David offers lessons Tuesday thru Saturday, unless gone to a show. Please call/text to set up a time to come visit our facility and learn more about David's program.
